Hello,
I'm thinking about moving to Portland and I wanted to get some advice.
First of all I'm going to need some housing but it's hard to get a place because I don't have any income or a cell phone or anything like that. I don't believe in technology. But if I don't get a place, I don't think anyone will consider hiring me without a local address or a phone number. I've been saving up for like 3 months to make this move so I can put a down payment on a security deposit. I would like to find something in a really nice neighborhood within walking distance from Hawthorne. I can afford about $300 / month and I would REALLY prefer to just have my own place because I don't really do well in shared housing situations. Can somebody direct me toward where I can find something like that?
I'm gonna need a job too so does anybody know anyone that's hiring? I want to work at a really hip cafe or bartend somewhere where the tips are really good. I also have a LOT of experience doing art and design. I prefer whatever work I do to be under the table. Anyone know anything like this?
Oh I forgot to mention I have 2 dogs and they kinda bark a lot if I'm gone so does anyone here do pet-sitting? I can do a trade with you, like give you free copies of my Zine which I sell for $5 on the street.
Last thing I need to know, are there any restaurants in Portland that are vegan, wheat-free, organic, and all local that are actually affordable? I don't want to have to pay $10 every time I go out to eat.
Thanks for your help.

stay were you are? think about it longer? think about other places than ptld?
try phoenix, the weather's nicer.
sorry, but that's the hard truth.
